Observica SE 2025 article - Nehemiah, “No, I Don’t Wanna!”

As I continue walking this creative journey, I often find that art becomes more than brushstrokes and color—it becomes memory, healing, and connection.

I'm honored to share that one of my most heartfelt paintings, “Nehemiah – No I Don’t Wanna,” has been selected for publication in Observica Magazine’s 31st Special Edition (2025)—a Canadian publication known for showcasing powerful contemporary art from around the world.

When I submitted a collection of twelve pieces to this international competition, I never imagined Nehemiah would be the one chosen. But perhaps I should have. This piece carries profound emotion. It was painted in memory of our beloved Nehemiah, my nephew, who was taken from us far too soon in a tragic car accident in 2018. A bright soul with a gentle heart, gone too early. This work holds his innocence, his light, and the enduring ache of his absence.

In many ways, Nehemiah has become a quiet guardian angel throughout this 2025 competition season. His painting has gently opened doors—receiving awards, attracting the attention of jurors, and introducing my work to audiences I never dreamed of reaching. His presence seems to whisper through the canvas, guiding me.

I’m deeply humbled by this recognition and grateful for the opportunity to share Nehemiah’s story through both digital and print platforms. Knowing that this piece—rooted in loss and love—will sit alongside the voices of so many global artists is something I will treasure always.
