The Story Behind Matador Clown
I painted Matador Clown during my junior year of high school, inspired by a beloved and iconic Matador clown from Mexico. This painting was one of several works that helped pave the way for my acceptance into college fine arts programs—but its greatest significance comes from the role it played in my family’s life.
My father loved this painting. I can still picture exactly where he and my mother displayed it—in the family room, where it greeted visitors and filled the house with a playful yet poignant energy. It made my dad smile every single day until he passed in January 2001. Clowns, in particular, were a joy shared between my father and his sister, Linda, who also adored them. I’m so grateful they both had the chance to enjoy this piece during their lifetimes.
Now, Matador Clown is a living memory for me—hanging on our walls at home, filled with echoes of their laughter and love. With its selection for Eyes 2025, this painting continues to reach new audiences, carrying those personal stories with it.
